I teach the Kingfishers (Years 4, 5 and 6) and am responsible for Maths, RE and Collective Worship throughout the school. I feel very lucky to work in such a happy and supportive school in beautiful and stunning surroundings. I enjoy teaching lessons which engage and encourage children to become independent and resilient learners.
Since qualifying as a teacher in 1995, I have taught in Derby and in Cheadle. Both my children came to Ilam School and are now at QEGS in Ashbourne. I was a Parent Governor during this time and also the Chair of Governors.
I enjoy spending time with my husband and 2 children, Alice and Tom. My other interests and hobbies include cooking, art and swimming.
Mrs Rachel Linton – Head of School, and Class Teacher Kingfishers
Hello! I’m Kate and I’m the Class Teacher for Squirrels. I have worked at Ilam School since January 2012. I never tire of my commute to such a beautiful location and realise how lucky I am to work here with such wonderful children and fantastic staff.
Apart from class teacher, my roles at Ilam School include Designated Safeguarding Lead, trainee teacher mentor and subject coordinator for: English, History, Geography and Art. I lead the school’s Eco Commitee which is dedicated to making the school as environmentally friendly as possible. I also run the school Facebook page which is updated regularly with photos and upcoming events.
I have a love for Art and all things creative, and also a special interest in History, coupled with my degree in Geography. I love teaching creative, cross-curricular lessons which stimulate a love of learning in the children. Baking is also a particular passion and, together with Mrs Linton, we organise an after school Baking Club. Another of my loves is animals, especially dogs. Luckily for me (and the children, I’m sure they’ll agree) my dog Miriam comes to school on Friday’s and thrives in her role as ‘school dog’.
Mrs Kate Greenwood – Class Teacher, Squirrels
I teach Kingfishers class for one day a week. I taught at Ilam for a short time in 2017 on a short term contract and am excited to be back.
I was born and grew up in Somerset and then after studying in Birmingham and Southampton, I qualified as a teacher in 1988. I started my teaching career in inner city Coventry and moved to
Staffordshire when my husband’s job was relocated to Leek in 1998. Since then, I have taught in Cheshire, Stoke and Cheadle.
I have a teenage son, Alastair, who goes to school in Leek. We also have a dog; a rather energetic Cocker Spaniel called Willow. She keeps us fit! Apart from walking, I enjoy cooking and sewing and
am trying my hand at a bit of picture framing.
Mrs Penny Callow, Kingfishers – part time teacher
I would just like to start off by saying thank you to all staff, pupils and parents for giving me such a warm welcome into Ilam school. I am extremely excited to be starting my teaching career here in the Ducks class and cannot wait to see what this next year brings!
Miss Emily Goldstraw – Nursery and Reception Teacher
I have worked at Ilam School for a very long time, welcoming all the new children to the school. My job has mainly been in Early Years, supporting the Reception/Year 1 children. I love to see the children develop and change throughout the school and maintain a great relationship with them as they grow. I am enjoying the challenges and fun in the new nursery and Ilam school is a big part of my life.
Mrs Vera Nottage
I started at Ilam as a volunteer. I was studying a Child Development course at college and needed some work experience. I thought Ilam was the loveliest place I could think of to do that and I have been here ever since. I cover the teachers’ planning time which is great because I get the opportunity to work with all the children. I support the children in their learning on the computers, and in particular learning coding and how to write simple programs. I am impressed by how quickly the children learn and how much they teach me!
