Hedgehogs timetable

Here is this year’s weekly timetable, it is subject to change over the year.

PE

We have PE on Monday.  Please make sure you bring your PE kits with you.  You can opt to have these left in school or we can send them home each week.

Our PE maybe inside so please ensure you have your white/ navy T-shirt, black or navy shorts/jogging bottoms/ leggings and trainers.

Swimming

Every Thursday afternoon in Autumn and Spring term, the Reception children go swimming at Blore Hall. Please ensure swimming kits are brought in as well as swimming hats.  Goggles are allowed as long as a permission slip has been filled in (these are available from the office).

Forest School (led by Mrs Redfern)

Our Forest School day is Friday. The children in Hedgehogs can come to school in their forest school clothes (items that you do not mind getting dirty!).  Please bring your wellies to school separately to change into. Some children also bring in waterproofs as well.

Reading and Home Learning

Your child will receive a new reading book each week.

Please make sure that their reading books are brought into school each day.

Following our NEW phonics scheme- Little Wandle (Please see our Phonics page for a more detailed breakdown of this).  The children read three times a week in school but there is also an expectation that parents listen to their child each day at home too. We want the children to celebrate their successes in reading and for a love of reading to be developed!

Alongside their reading book, each week, Reception will also receive a home learning sheet which identifies the sounds that they have been learning that week.   They can use this to practice recalling the sounds, their letter formation and writing words with the sound in.  They will also receive a folder which contains a series of High Frequency words.  We call these ‘Tricky Words’ as they have to be learnt by sight rather than blending.  I will add more of these to the folder as the year progresses and more of the phonics curriculum is covered.

Maths

In Hedgehogs, all children follow the White Rose Scheme of Learning just like the rest of the school.

Please see below the overview for the year and then click on the links to see each topic broken down into what will be taught in each phase.

Show and Tell

Show and Tell is a great way for the children to develop their speaking and listening skills.  As the year progresses, we use show and tell as a platform to get the Reception children writing, as what they bring in tends to be of significant interest to them. The sessions take place every Wednesday afternoon.  It is adored by the children and something they look forward to each week.

Here is the long-term plan, giving an overview of all learning covered in Hedgehogs over the academic year.
Following the ethos of the Early Years, this curriculum could change as we may follow the interests of your child/ren.
